How to write an Australian address
Have your Australian friends saying, “good on ya” when they see that you know how to address a letter to them. You can look at our bonza Australian address examples here and try our suite of address validation tools for Australian mail below. Just enter an address, and we'll format, standardize, and validate the address in a jiffy.
Now, let's get into it with the basics. The Australian address format will teach you how to address a letter for shipping or mailing, and should be written in all capital letters as follows:
- Address line - The recipient's name. If the recipient has a title, such as Sheila of Sunnies, include it here.
- Business or department name - If applicable, add the organization or department name.
- Building number - House or building number are listed here. If there are other address elements, this information should go on a separate line above this one (e.g. locked bag 100).
- Post town (city) and territory/state abbreviation and postal code - This is separated from the locality name by preferably 2 spaces. No punctuation marks are necessary as the extra space notates the separation of address components on this line.
- COUNTRY - AUS, written in all capital letters.
